Jan
Shield grew up in a family of artists and has been painting and sculpting
all of his life. He is a Professor of Art at Pacific University, Forest
Grove where he has been teaching since 1971. Mr. Shield's works are included
in corporate, public, and private collections across the country including
New York. He has exhibited widely throughout the Pacific Northwest in one
and two person shows, invitational's, and juried group shows. Galleries
where his works have been represented include: Lawrence Gallery, River Sea
Gallery, Astoria; White Bird Gallery, Cannon Beach; and Rental Sales Gallery
PAM, Portland.
Through his paintings, prints, murals, and sculpture, Jan shares his deep
regard for the most western regions of the United States, particularly
Oregon, Hawaii, Japan, China, Australia, and the Pacific Rim. His paintings
especially are a comment on Naturalism and symbolism. Other paintings and
three-dimensional forms let the viewer feel the power, richness, and
substance he discovers in nature through a more abstract style of
expression.
Mr. Shield's studio is located here at Dancing Trees Sanctuary For The Arts.
Jan is available by appointment to discuss the sale or commission of his
work as well as corporate art consultation and permanent collections
placement.
